Ownership
Orbic Air offers you a new way of helicopter ownership. While it has been done for a long time now in airplanes, the opportunity has not been commonly available for helicopters. This is an owner operated joint ownership program designed to put you into the PIC seat of a brand new, fully equipped Robinson R44 Raven II.
The contract is for a period of 3 years, and shares in the helicopter are offered in 1/8th increments with each share being allocated 75 hours of flight time per year. You will become an equity owner in the aircraft and be registered with the FAA. As a result, all tax benefits of ownership are available to you. Upon termination of the contract, Orbic will refurbish the aircraft, sell it at fair market value, and distribute the proceeds back to the equity owners.
Aircraft
You will become a registered owner in a brand new Robinson R44 Raven II. Robinson is known worldwide for its high performance, reliable helicopters. The R44 is the world’s top selling helicopter, and yours will be equipped with all the bells and whistles.
Standard Features:
• 4 person seating with open cockpit • 205 HP Lycoming IO-540 fuel injected engine • 135 mph cruise speed • 2,500 lb max gross weight • 1,000 lb useful load • Approximate range up to 400 miles (no reserve)
Your Fully Equipped R44 includes:
• Leather Seats • Bubble Doors • Bose Headsets and Ipod music input • Artificial Horizon, Slip/Skid, Turn Coordinator and VOR instrumentation • Garmin 430 GPS w/ Traffic Information Services • Air Conditioning
Pilot Requirements
To qualify for this exclusive program, the individual must, at a minimum, hold a rotorcraft category and helicopter class rating. If you have never flown an R44, you will also undergo transition training of no less than 10 hours with an Orbic instructor, which can be used from your ownership hours. Additionally, all participants will need to go through the Robinson Safety Course training prior to multiple passenger flights. We are looking for owners who possess the skill set of a safe, proficient pilot, and who demonstrate sound judgment.
Management
Through the professional services of Orbic Air, we will manage the helicopter on behalf of all owners, eliminating the usual hassles of aircraft ownership, including maintenance, insurance, FAA documentation, property taxes, hangar, cleaning, and scheduling.
Scheduling
Online: We provide for 24 hour scheduling through our online system, which can be accessed anywhere you can obtain internet access.
Hours: The number of hours per year is based on your ownership share. Each 1/8th share is allocated 75 hours per year. Additionally you can carryover up to 10% of your allotted hours to the subsequent year.
Overnights: Overnight flights are allowed, and are determined based upon your ownership level, and availability.
Costs
There are three primary costs associated with all aircraft ownership. As you will see when you compare the cost with sole ownership, you will find significant cash flow savings as well as enhanced opportunity costs for your cash that is not tied up in just one asset.
Acquisition Cost: This is your cost to purchase your ownership level. A deposit will be required prior to delivery.
Monthly Fixed Cost: This cost incorporates all the traditional fixed costs associated with aircraft ownership such as insurance, property taxes, annual inspection, hangar, avionics updates, and cleaning. Additionally this cost includes a management fee to Orbic.
Hourly Usage: This fee covers the cost of fuel, oil, and maintenance and engine reserves.

Terms
Duration: The length of the contract is the later of aircraft time out, or 3 years.
End of Contract Options: At the end of 3 years, owners will have a couple of options.
1. Participate in the Overhaul. Orbic will rebuild the aircraft and sell it at fair market value. The proceeds will then be distributed back to the owners.
2. Sell you share prior to the overhaul, either to Orbic or a third party, at the timed out value.
Liquidity: You have flexibility to sell you share to a qualified buyer at any time during the contract, subject to Orbic’s right of first refusal, and certain transfer and brokerage fees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q What is Joint Ownership?
A Joint Ownership allows you to own a fraction of a brand new helicopter, without the full burden of sole ownership. You will be a registered owner of the aircraft, and therefore entitled to any tax benefits that may apply to you.
Q What if I’ve never flown an R44?
A You must at least hold a rotorcraft category and helicopter class rating to qualify for the ownership program. After that, we will provide initial transition training, as well as recurring proficiency training throughout the duration of your ownership. Such flight time will be debited from your allocated flight hours, and subject to related fees.
Q Why do I still have to pay an hourly fee?
A The hourly fee includes the cost of fuel, oil, and maintenance and engine reserves. Orbic will rebuild the aircraft once it is timed out, and then sell the asset. The proceeds are then returned in a proportional share to the owners.
Q Can I sell my share before the end of the term?
A Yes you can, to a qualified buyer, subject to transfer and brokerage fees depending on your length remaining on the contract.
Q Will scheduling be difficult with 8 owners?
A While it sounds like a lot, scheduling should not be too conflicting. Even with 8 members, the aircraft will usually be sitting on the ground over 80% of the time. While we cannot guarantee availability, each share owner will have rotating priority every 8th week should you want to take it for a weekend.
Q Does it make more sense to rent?
A Currently, rental of the R44 is rarely offered due to insurance restrictions. However, assuming you could rent, the ownership program is designed for the individual who will fly a minimum of 25 hours per year. Above that, you will benefit through ownership. Additionally, any tax savings that may apply could provide for a lower break even flight time.
Q What if I need more than 75 hours per year?
A You can always purchase more than 1 share. Each share is allocated 75 hours, and the relative buy in and monthly costs will also be proportional with a slight discount.
Q Can I use it for business?
A Absolutely. In fact, that is one very large benefit of ownership. Your name is actually on the FAA registration, so to the extent you are using it for business purposes, you may be entitled to the expenses. You should consult with your CPA regarding tax matters. However, the aircraft cannot be used for purposes of commercial operations as defined in the FAR’s.
